The Family Companion takes a team approach to help ensure the best possible results when treating pet behavior problems. Our team consists of the client’s primary veterinarian, the option of a board certified Veterinary Behaviorist, a board certified Veterinarian Technician Specialist in Behavior, and if indicated Certified Professional Dog Trainers.
Once the veterinarian has performed a thorough physical exam to rule out any medical problems that may be affecting the pet’s behavior, a referral is made to our behavior technician, Marcia Ritchie, along with a diagnosis. A detailed history including videotaping is then taken during a two hour session in the client’s home.
Should the determination be made to employ a Veterinary Behaviorist, this information is then shared with the referring veterinarian and Dr. Julia Albright, DVM. The team will meet and together determine the best treatment plan for the pet.
Follow up appointments to assist the client with hands on training and behavior modification are usually recommended. Subsequent sessions are carried out by a behavior technician or one of our Certified Professional Dog Trainers.
